Our Difference

What is the difference you see with The Grass is Greener? Our method of Integrated Pest Management (IPM) sets us apart from other lawn care companies because we use environmentally-minded practices to promote healthy plants and turf. We use pesticides only when necessary, and our strong attention to detail means that the pest will be treated effectively with the best possible treatment of the environment. We strongly believe it’s worth the extra effort to zero in on your pest problem and eliminate it with a series of careful controls, putting the health of you, your lawn and the environment first.

What Is IPM?

Integrated Pest Management is a way of treating pests that incorporates vigilance for the environment. According to the Environmental Protection Agency, IPM involves a collection of informed, common-sense practices. Here’s what they have to say:

“IPM programs use current, comprehensive information on the life cycles of pests and their interaction with the environment. This information, in combination with available pest control methods, is used to manage pest damage by the most economical means, and with the least possible hazard to people, property, and the environment. IPM is not a single pest control method, but, rather, a series of pest management evaluations, decisions, and controls.” —Integrated Pest Management Principles, www.epa.gov

IPM uses four steps:

  • Set Action Thresholds (We assess your situation and plan the best treatment method.)
  • Monitor and Identify Pests
  • Prevention
  • Control

At The Grass is Greener, IPM means that we employ the most environmentally safe products available, handling them with great care under established standards. We treat only when a pest is present and treat only the pest, not the surroundings. We use organic products whenever possible because we strive to be good stewards of the Earth.

We use a dual approach when servicing your lawn. First, we apply a dry product of fertilizer, soil conditioner and crabgrass preventer. Next, we use a liquid weed control that only treats the weeds that are present. This means that the dry application can be released over a period of months, continually feeding your lawn as it grows. The liquid product controls weeds and has no lasting effect on the environment.
